Toyota has unveiled the production version of the Urban Cruiser EV, an all-electric SUV that shares its platform with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. This model is set to make its public debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show in January.
Design and Dimensions
The Urban Cruiser EV features a design inspired by Toyota's latest styling cues, including a 'hammerhead' front end that integrates the headlamps and DRLs. The side profile and rear design closely resemble the Suzuki e Vitara, with squared wheel arches and connected tail lamps. The SUV measures 4,285mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,640mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
Interior Features
Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV offers a black and dark grey interior with a dashboard featuring vertical A/C vents and a horizontal instrument panel combining the instrument cluster and infotainment system. It comes equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration, a JBL premium audio system, ambient lighting with 12 different colours, and a fixed sunroof.
Battery and Powertrain Options
The Urban Cruiser EV is available with two battery packs: a 49kWh and a 61kWh. The 49kWh battery is paired with a front-wheel-drive system, delivering 142bhp and 189Nm of torque. The 61kWh battery offers both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options. The front-wheel-drive variant produces 172bhp and 189Nm, while the all-wheel-drive version delivers 181bhp and 300Nm, thanks to an additional motor on the rear axle.
Advanced Features
The SUV is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including a pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and lane-keep assist. It also features a 360-degree camera for enhanced safety.
Expected Launch in India
While Toyota has not officially confirmed the launch date for the Indian market, the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to arrive in India in late 2025. It is anticipated to be produced at Suzuki's Gujarat facility, alongside the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV offers a compelling blend of design, features, and performance, positioning it as a strong contender in the growing electric SUV segment in India.
